This year's E3 was an all around great experience. Nintendo really made it's presence known with the DS and Wii booths. I had a lot of fun playing the new New Super Mario Bros. game for Wii with RogeR. Any original Mario fan will surely enjoy this game. It has a very good Mario 3 feel to it. I have the game for DS, and while it's a very very good Mario game it does not feature the awesome P-Wings, raccoon tail, frog suit, massive inventory box, and other random goodies from the great Mario3.
From playing the DEMO Wii version at E3, I witnessed that it has brought some new features such as the propeller hat (replacing the raccoon tail) and the ability to have 4 players at once. Also, someone dying in multiplayer resulted in you being placed in a bubble which floated across the screen waiting for another player to jump and pop it. Shaking the controller increased the speed at which you floated towards your teammates.
Activision had a very impressive booth with DJ Hero being featured. They had Bon Jovi mixed with some upbeat dance music while I was there, and it actually sounded pretty good. There are several videos on youtube of it that capture some of the moments. Appearances by Eminem, Jay-Z, and other known celebs happened Monday for the DJ Hero game. A clip of that can be found on
youtube.
We also got an interview with Peter Sokal, who is the new Community Manager for id Software. We spoke to him about the upcoming Wolfenstein game. That can be found
here.
And of course the
Fatal1ty Interview is up. He talks about the new headphones and ram card coming out. The headphones would make an excellent addition to your Quakecon byoc gear for sure. The new ram card that was showcased will be out of reach of most gamers because of the price, but I'm certainly interested in seeing some benchmark numbers from it.
There were several off-camera happenings going on that were exciting to be there for. I met the guys from
Rupture.com who seem to have a really good idea going. It tracks your xbox live, ps3, and steam (pc) games and packs a Challenge option for some scrims!
