crt is the author of the popular RocketArena3 modification for Quake3.
PlanetQuake3: Will the OGC bot no longer work in the upcoming version
of RocketArena3?
crt: If PunkBuster blocks it, then it won't work. I don't have the time
or resources to constantly fight every new hack that comes out - at this point
I'll need to trust that id and the PB team has put the necessary protections in
place. My goal with this release is just to make sure the PB works correctly
with RA3 and provides full protection.
PlanetQuake3:Can you explain in detail why the chat, MP3 player, and
ArenaSpy server browser will not work in the upcoming RA3 version?
crt: Those features require use of a native DLL, instead of a QVM. The
DLL will likely not be compatible with PB, which I assume requires running in
"pure" mode.
PlanetQuake3: What known bugs are you planning to fix in the upcoming
version?
crt: I'm still compiling a list.
PlanetQuake3: What have you been up to for the last year? Everyone
thought you forgot about RA3.
crt: I've been working at GameSpy for the past several years on a variety
of projects, including GameSpy Arcade and the GameSpy.net developer
technologies. I've wanted to come back to RA3 for a while now, but have been
waiting on the updated SDK source to be released so that it could be made fully
compatible with the latest Q3 code.
PlanetQuake3: Any thoughts about releasing a map pack of community made
RA3 maps for download on the official RA3 site?
crt: I think there are plenty of community resources already for RA3
maps, and don't plan to release any specific additional ones at this time.
PlanetQuake3: What other games could we be seeing the RocketArena code
built for? UT2k3, Doom3, Quake4?
crt: We'll have to wait and see!
